Trouble finding My Askville in new navigation bar?

Hey Askvillers,

We realize some folks are having trouble finding their My Askville in the new navigation bar.  We also have a software bug that is causing some people to not see the green My Askville button.  We are working quickly to fix the technical bug for My Askville - it should be released later today.  Below is a screenshot of My Askville in the global navigation for those who still are not sure where My Askville should be located.

IF you are one of the folks where the My Askville button isn't showing, then in the interim search for a question (using the new search interface ;o) ) that you've asked, answered, or posted a comment on.  Then find your post and click on your avatar and that will get you to your profile page; after which you can click on My Askville on your public profile in the green box, located to the right of your avatar image (see screenshot below):

Sorry for this inconvenience and we should have a fix for this issue later today.

Cheers,
The Askville Team

Search has finally arrived!

Hey Askvillers,

It has been a long time coming, but we've finally launched full text search on Askville!  We've added a new global navigation area where you will have the option of either searching for questions on Askville or asking a question throughout the website.

Global_nav_topic_page

If you want to Ask a question, just click on the "Ask a question" button in the global navigation area and the search box will change to a question asking box.  Type the beginning of your question there and then submit your question after you add details and relevant topics on the full question asking page.

If your searching for a specific question, we will initially show you questions with answers and questions needing answers (i.e. all results).  However, you can filter for just questions with answers or questions needing answers by clicking on the option located on the search results page (see screenshot below).

This is the first version of Search on Askville.  We will be working on improving the search experience in the future, but we hope this will be a welcomed feature on Askville.  As always, please give us feedback on how we can improve this user experience.

Added Social Bookmarking Tools
We also recently added the ability to add your favorite questions using popular social bookmarking tools like Digg, del.icio.us, and Yahoo bookmarks.  On every question you should see a list of icons where you can add the question to other popular social bookmarking/social websites.

We hope you like some of these features.  We still have a lot of other features on our roadmap, most of which are based on the great feedback that you have given us.  So keep the feedback coming!

Cheers,
The Askville Team

New Questions make a Comeback

Hey Askvillers,

We've received a lot of feedback about our new homepage layout, both good and bad.  As we mentioned in our last post, we will be tweaking the homepage with the long-term goal of allowing users to customize it so that the content that you want to see will show up, front and center, each time you visit Askville.  That said, we've changed the homepage so that now you can toggle between Featured Answers and New Questions.  Moreover, as soon as you log into Askville, the default setting is to see New Questions; the default setting for users who have not logged in is still the same, however, you now can toggle to New Questions on the slide show.  We hope this will help users who are looking to answer new questions when they visit Askville versus newbie users who are looking to just browse some of the great answers from older questions.

We've also made some improvements to the narrow-results functionality on all topic pages so that the narrow-results filters are more accurate.  Keep in mind that when you narrow results in a topic, you are only narrowing results on questions that were tagged with the main topic.  If you want to narrow results on a different topic, click on the "browse popular topic" link on each topic page.  Thanks for everyone's feedback and patience as we continue to make Askville a great place to ask... answer... meet... play!

Cheers,
The Askville Team
